A sock!
My very first sock!!

I could list plenty of flaws, but I’m not going to – I’m just going to enjoy the fact that I have knitted a sock – and I have cast on for the second one – my so-called swatch has been left to one side for now (although it has grown since you last saw it – it’s blending into gorgeous, yummy middling grey as it moves towards almost black – the subtlety of the colour changes is magical.)
I can also proudly present the first photo of Ruth “knitting”:

Yesterday I walked into the lounge to discover that she was investigating the back of the sofa – where all my knitting was waiting to be put somewhere sensible. She hadn’t done any damage, but was furious when I removed it from her (she is very good at furious). So I offered her some needles and a small ball of leftover yarn of her own – she was thrilled, and sat poking the needles in the wool for ages – until Adam decided to muscle in and take it off her!

Your daughter’s lovely! But those needles are almost as big as she is! Great sock, too!Mary de B () (link) - 12 January '06 - 08:48

She’s adorable! I had the same experience with my two year old just a couple of days ago. She too is now the proud new owner of (my) 12 mm needles and some leftover yarn!Tari () (link) - 12 January '06 - 23:37
