Self Portrait Tuesday
(OK – so one day early, but I’ve got time now… )
I was delighted when I saw the theme for February’s SPT – “”all of me” embrace your mistakes, love the ugly bits.” – after all, I’ve already posted a pic of my belly (complete with stretchmarks) and my messy kitchen, so I’m there, surely…

But in fact I find I’m not so comfortable about posting this – it’s not that I’m far from looking my best – the messy hair and the red nose can be attributed to the cold I was suffering from at the time – no, the real feeling of nakedness and exposure comes from the smears on the bathroom mirror. Our house is a tip. If I spent less time knitting and messing around on the computer I could get it tidier and cleaner – but after 12 1/2 years of married life, not all of which was spent knitting or blogging, I’ve still not mastered the art of a clean and tidy house. But I hate that it isn’t “friendlier” – I squirm when people come round, and although I do generally run round like a mad thing trying to make it more presentable, it’s never the peaceful, ordered place I would like. So here is our front room – the room where I’m sitting now – this is painful self-exposure

You sure you didn’t just pile all that stuff up for the photo ‘cos it all looks pretty organised except for that pile of stuff which could easily be cleared away?! Anyway, I know what you mean about knitting eating up the time that one feels, on looking around one, should be spent tidying/cleaning. Oh dear, I’m afraid I’m guilty too, though I’m more into the cosmetic sweeping the dust under the carpet type thing. Cringe Thanks for your helpful comments on the christening shawl!

ok Anne, but this is still January! And you know what they say, “When I die I don’t want to be remembered as the one who always had the cleanest house”.She whose house is too clean is either paying someone else to keep it that way, or she’s got really nothing better to do with her time – and how sad is that?
Don’t feel too too bad about it, but I do get it, running around to pick up when someone is at the doorstep.

If you think your house looks bad, you want to see my flat! And I HATE visiting people with clean and tidy houses cos it makes me feel all uncomfortable (I always end up dropping crumbs or spilling tea etc!). So spend the time knitting…Daisy () (link) - 02 February '06 - 19:03
I recommend a swift Archdeacon, or thereabouts, for maximum tidying in minimal time…but like you, while I have no aspirations to a tidy home, I do feel sad that it’s often too chaotic to be truly welcoming.I had such high hopes that moving to a smaller, more sensible house, with older children would somehow transform my domestic muddles…but i forgot the crucial point that i’d be moving there too, so the result could be predicted well in advance. Ah well…
Hope cold is getting better.
