Upcoming Bloggiversary - and a contest.

This blog will be one year old on the 28th July. So, why not have a contest? There’s probably some good reasons, but the best one (couldn’t think what to set) has just become defunct (I’ve had an idea).

So (drum roll)...

Name your superpower.

It’s easy – just pick your ideal superpower – mine is the ability to perform household tasks by identifying them… – “Oh look – the washing up needs doing.” [pause] “Oh look – it’s done.” But there’s no need to be as boring and pedestrian as that – be imaginative (but keep it clean folks!)

Just leave a comment, and I’ll pick a winner and choose an appropriate prize on the 29th.

Update (29/7/06): Contest now closed – results to be announced later today.

The ability to think quickly of witty comments to make in reply to blog questions?

(First thought was to pinch your idea generalised to things I don’t like doing, but I’d also need a “to have thought of it first” ability to use it and the temoporal paradoxes in such a blog comment are interesting!)

Hmmm… This is giving me a surprisingly difficult time. Maybe teleportation?? Flying sounds too creepy. :)

I would like to be able to reverse the power of invisibility that my work clothes have. I have to wear a red polo shirt and for some reason when I’m wearing it people can’t see me. For instance when I’m carrying a heavy box from one end of the shop to the other I become invisible. Even when I say “excuse me, please” I still remain invisible. So my superpower would be defeating the invisibility polo shirts.

My idea super power would be to have one of those ‘stick-on’ holes from the cartoon world, that always went to my studio. Then, wherever I am, I could just step back into my studio, do some work, then step back into the dentist’s office, line at the bank, downtime at work etc.. and not have missed anything!

I would get so much more done ;) It would be ideal for getting household tasks done too.. but that would take some of the fun out of it!

I have a shirt someone made for me that says “I make milk, what’s your superpower?” Oddly enough, though, it’s not a nursing shirt….
(Hmm, that actually looks far more random than I thought it would.)

I got directed over here by Chris at Stumbling Over Chaos. Congrats on your bloggiversary!

I would love to have a super power that involved being able to do tasks while I slept. This way I would be able to do the mundane things while unconscious and have more time for the good things like knitting and playing with my kitties. :-)

The “Great Finisher” would be my superpower name cause I would have a power that finises off my projects just when I am getting bored with them….like the end of the Bakyard Leaves Scarves, then end of the Socks, then end of…..this sentence…...

Donni () (link) - 25 July '06 - 01:34

I like Arvan’s superpower at the moment, but dang, yours would come in handy.

Hmmm. I’d have the superpower to make all traffic lights in my direction green. (Selfish, sure, but everyone going my way would also benefit.)

I have thought a lot about this. This is actually my superhero power: to drain the body heat from anyone just by touching them with my cold hands. You see…I steal their heat. This is important because I have very very cold hands.

My ideal superpower would be to freeze time so I could get more done without being interupted! Like knitting, some cleaning, and did I mention knitting! =) Happy Blogiversary. I didn’t realize that ours were in the same week!!

Mandy () (link) - 25 July '06 - 08:40

Happy Bloggiversary! I have been pondering this one, as you have pinched the best, it’s been quite hard. You know those moments you say or do something and wish the world would swallow you up? I lie in bed at night and am kept awake by them, desperately thinking of what I should have said/done. Mistakes from years gone by haunt me. So, my superpower? A rewind button. Or, an automatic gag, to stop me doing it in the first place!

Louise - 25 July '06 - 09:18

Happy anniversary Anne!!

Erm….....my superpower would be….to be able to go back in time…..give me the summer of ‘79 again….eating Blackjacks and Spangles….....playing in the den…...no health issues or money problems, having a lithe body again, skipping…oh, i could go on…........’79 was bliss :-))

Happy Bloggiversary!!!

My superpower would be the same as Hitchiker’s Guide… I’d be able to beam in my thoughts etc however I’d be able to read people’s thoughts. Very good when dealing with a) tiny children and b) men (who are obviously subset of (a));)

Freezing time was my first choice, tho. I’d freze time and sleep, knit, cook, etc…

Kate (link) - 25 July '06 - 17:15

I’d like the ability to grow and shrink at will. Super tall when you need to see over people’s heads, small and hardly there when you want to hide and not be found, superskinny when you want to fit into that glamourous dress, normal sized when you want to disguise yourself as a normal member of society, long arms when you need to reach something, telescopic legs to fold up in small seats at the cinema. The possibilities are endless. :-)

Pigwotknits () (link) - 25 July '06 - 18:03

I actually do have a superpower. I can instantly identify a $200 purse in the middle of a bunch of $20 ones. I am magnetically pulled towards it. Maybe if I ever buy one, I would lose this power…

Mary de B () (link) - 25 July '06 - 18:29

Happy blogiversary! Any many more! I’d like to be able to heal with a touch. If that’s not possible I’d like bat wings and the ability to see in the dark. ;)

heather () (link) - 25 July '06 - 18:35

I’d like to be able to lower a cone of silence (as in Get Smart) so I could concentrate, think – and use everyone else’s superpowers to get things done!

melanie () (link) - 25 July '06 - 19:43

I already have a superpower, which is the ability to embarass my son simply by existing. I can even enhance this superpower by publically quoting him as a toddler.
Pretty cool, eh? ;D

If I had to choose another one, it would be the power to allow people to have one last conversation with loved ones who have died, so that everyone could say what they really want to say and let go of the things they torture themselves with.

Eileen () (link) - 26 July '06 - 15:55

congrats on the blog’s anniversary (hop on over to my blog for a list of anniversary gifts suitable for knitters!) my superpower would be being able to solve arguments just by looking at the people involved, and thinking soothing thoughts, as my stomach ties up in knots when I see people falling out and (as I’m greedy and want to go for 2) I’d like to be able to do fairisle (that really is a superpower in my book)!

rosie () (link) - 26 July '06 - 21:00

Happy blogiversary!! I found you through Chris and Chaos as well!

If I had a superpower I would want to freeze time. You know stop everything that is happening around you. It would be so useful to hold those moments that are going by too fast or to take a break in a situation that needs it. Not to mention the lifesaving possibilities as well as the infinite amount of knitting you could get done while the world waits. Never be late with that hand knit gift again!

Leah () (link) - 27 July '06 - 17:34

Hi, happy anniversary.
Ive been thnking about an answer ever since you put this competition up, hmmm, perhaps to b able to find the off switches/volume switches on hyper Under 7’s

HeatherP () (link) - 27 July '06 - 20:13

Wow, there are some great superpowers here! I especially like Erin’s (steal heat, for the same reason) and Melanie’s (cone of silence, very handy for work noise).

Chris () (link) - 29 July '06 - 00:53

sorry i missed this

happy Bloggiversary!

my super power would be to be able to alter what is on the page of a piece of music or sightreading so that it exactly reflects what I play!!!!!

(having an awesome time at oundle for organists :P)

xXx
