Who links to me?

Primates

There’s big and important stuff going on in the Anglican Communion at the moment. So I keep reading and hearing about what the primates are up to. And EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear the word “primates” I think “monkeys”. I don’t say anything because even I (especially I) don’t think it’s funny any more. Please please please can I start thinking “archbishop” instead? (Or does that mean that my silly little head is then going to start getting images of bishops swinging through the trees?)

I give up.

I’m SO glad it’s not just me!

Oh, I’ve been picturing monkeys, wearing mitres, swinging through the trees all these years and I’ve got it wrong?

Yep, been thinking that for years! And occasionally I think that Monkey and his chums would make less of a hash of things…

What else could you think? That’s what primate means! What were they thinking? (It was too long ago?) Yikes. I’m glad I don’t have that dilemna.

My particular favourite is when they refer to the “Primate of All-Ireland” – visions of the Great Irish Ape shouldering through the forests of Armagh…

I was nearly undone by our junior choristers this morn who, when the intercessor quite reaosonably suggested we should pray for the Primates, started making silent “ooh oooh” noises (if that makes sense) and scratching their armpits. Thankfully, there were no bananas in sight.
Oh dear…It’s ++Rowan who is so good on our calling to be “fully human” too.

I must add that when I read your post, I then read your link in the Church Times – and I was in stitches!

Echo:Gla I’m not the only one…

I must say I like the idea of Bishops swinging through trees… can we send them all to Thetford?
