A comment about running...
I’m not doing it. I went out the second time and realised that not only was I hating it, I hated the stretching before and after and I hate feeling shattered afterwards too (no lovely endorphin rush, just fatigue and inability to get anything else done). All that I could/would have worked through, but I realised that I’d also started weighing myself every morning, and was beginning to feel guilty for eating any snacks. That way lies very bad things. I don’t want to go there, so I’ve stopped running. For some people it’s great, for me it’s not.
So, in true knitting blog style, I’ll distract you with pictures of knitting – oooh look, pretty:

Sylph from Interweave Knits Spring 2008
Debbie Bliss Cathay
This is one of my favourite knits of all time. The pattern is interesting enough (even without the twisted stitch pattern, which I love but, as I wrote before, was biasing horribly) to avoid the ‘acres of st st’ syndrome, and so much of the seaming is done before the knitting is completely finished that the remaining portion doesn’t seem to hurt so much – and of course it gives me the chance to practice the magic of mattress stitch again

Pretty sweater!I hate running – and after I run for a few weeks, I start to have trouble with sciatica. I’m a walker or cyclist at heart and my body agrees!

Good call on the running. I have to say, I haven’t been running either, but that’s because I was sewing madly for a week, then recovering from sewing madly for a week, for a week! TEchnically, I should be starting up again today, but you know, I might walk instead…Sylph is gorgeous, and you look fantastic wearing it! I’m still waiting for my first IK (summer ‘08) to arrive; I have my eye on the apres surf hoodie…

The sweater is great! I must make myself a nice cardigan for next fall. (Just add it to the list…
I have taken up walking up the hill nearby. I used google pedometer so now I can proudly say I walk 2 miles each morning. It doesn’t take very long, but next week my routine will be disrupted and I might not be able to keep up this virtuous lifestyle. (I’ve done it twice!)

Ooh Sylph looks fantastic! And great idea for using some Cathay I have lying around…Very sensible about the running, I reached that conclusion about eight years ago!

Oooh pretty sweater!I’m not much for running either. For one thing, the endorphin thing takes EONS to kick in, for another? Walking is so much nicer on my joints.

Sounds sensible; and I’m a walking addict. Are you close enough to any hills to stretch your muscles on some inclines, as a good change from pavements?Fabulous garment, too.

Fantastic job on the knitting! Very flattering, too.As for the running, I just came to the opposite conclusion. After 5 sluggish, lazy, irritable weeks of NO exercise, I determined that it is medically necessary for me (moodwise, thighwise) to run, or lift weights, or do something physical.
I have learned, however, that the slower I run, the more I enjoy it. On the days when I push myself, I get tired, sore, cranky, and winded. On the slow days, I can breathe, think, enjoy the scenery, and not feel rotten when I get home.
Whatever works for you!
